I have the most creative mother-in-law. For all of her grandchildren she does the 12 days of Christmas. This year it is focused on food storage. Which, I'm so grateful for, since my food storage consists of 2 weeks of groceries. By the end of week one, we are already running low on food. This is probably the reason my hubby can't gain any weight. Sorry! I'm excited to get my rear in gear and get started on food storage.
Yesterday was the first day of Christmas and the activity was making fudge. Before you judge us, just remember this is our first attempt at making fudge. It shouldn't be that difficult right? Wrong!
The first problem: we didn't have a candy thermometer. However, the instructions said that if we boiled it for about 5 minutes it should be the temperature needed. LIES!
Second problem: we used the wrong size pot. Don't make this mistake. The mixture is supposed to be boiling the whole time and since our pot was too small it kept overflowing. We had to keep removing the pot from the heat. Good luck getting it to the right temperature when the pot isn't even on the burner!
Third problem: we almost burnt down the kitchen. The pot overflowed a little too much and went all over the burner. The whole kitchen was filled with smoke! Haha. Who knew we were so fudge retarded.
After cooling the fudge for hours and not setting we put it in the freezer for about an hour. Here is the result...
I don't think it's supposed to look like frosting?
Well my poor hubby was craving fudge so we decided to attempt it again at 9 o'clock last night. We had to run to the store to get the ingredients and get a candy thermometer. It turns out WinCo only has meat thermometers, so we decided to attempt it without one again.
The picture of my hubby is priceless!
Our baby is totally getting a kick out of watching us attempt to make fudge.
I'm happy to say, it kinda turned out!
Word of advice to those of us who are baking challenged...save yourself some time, go to the bakery, and buy fudge!
Merry first day of Christmas!
