boy oh boy!

Yep...we are having a baby boy! We couldn't feel more blessed. He is my perfectly good explanation for me slacking on blogging. I am due June 8th, so more than half way there. Yippee! This pregnancy has flown by for me. I'm not going to lie, when I was pregnant with my baby girl it felt like forever and a day. Sorry for the   crappy pictures, they were taken with my hubs phone. 

Something random to know about my hubs and I, is that we don't agree on names...period! It's really not even fun for us to talk about baby names, because we are on totally separate pages. Right now we aren't even entertaining any names. Anyone have any good ideas for boy names? Please tell!

I have decided to post my project life pages since I think it might help me actually stick with it. We somehow keep managing to get sick, so I had to play catch up this week. That is why weeks 4 and 5 are combined. I kinda had to do weeks 3, 4, 5, and start week 6 all this week. Yikes! But I'm all caught up, that's all that matters, right? Here there are...

I had tons of fun at this shoot. Diana, the beautiful momma, and I got along so well. It felt as if we had been friends forever. I had so much fun hanging out with her. I get to take newborn pictures for their baby girl after she arrives! Woot! I can't wait.

We took pictures indoors and outdoors, and can I just tell you, I think I have a crush on window light. It's probably my favorite light. Too bad I live in a basement apartment.

I feel terrible for how long it has taken me to finish up these pictures for my sister. My baby girl and I have been sick most of this month. I finished editing these pictures last week and had good intentions to put them up on my blog. And we got sick, again. Thanks for being patient Mequelle and Reggie!

P.S. It was super, super cold for this shoot. We would get out of the car for 5 minutes, take pictures, and then jump right back into the car. We probably spent 15 minutes total on actually taking the pictures. Good thing they are extremely photogenic and don't need much time to get some good shots!

life & such

I often times feel like my photography is only as good as how many clients I get. Until I discovered a photographer named Becky Earl. Her work is some of my very favorite! She isn't currently in business, but continues to share pictures of her family. I'm sure once she goes back into business, she will have clients up the wazoo! 

What is success? Is it measured by how much money we make, how many clients we have, or even how busy we are? I finally came to my own conclusion of what success is. It's loving what you do, and learning to find balance in life. 

For a little while, I felt like photography was running my life and I couldn't manage to find balance. I typically wouldn't do more than one photo shoot a week, and I still felt too busy. In order for me to truly be there for my husband and baby girl 100% of the time, I need to say goodbye to having a photography business for now. I feel that right now I really need to focus on my family and my life and trying to find a better balance with everyday things. 

That being said, I'm not stopping with my passion for photography! I still plan to take pictures of my family and doing stuff occasionally for family and close friends. I'm also hoping to shoot lots and lots more film! Just be prepared to see a lot more pictures of my family, and a lot less of other families.

Anyway, enough of me rambling on...here are just a few things I'm working on:

My Sister's wedding pictures. Which have taken me way too long to get to. 

Project life! My goal is to actually complete all 52 weeks.

My baby's scrapbook...which I can never seem to catch up on.

It's a miracle, I actually blogged! I think I will give myself a pat on the back. I promise there is a good reason why I've been MIA...more on that later. 

Let me tell you a little story of my photography journey so far. When I first started out with my shiny new DSLR, I realized light was very important when taking pictures. But, I became obsessed with trying to figure out how to shoot manual and trying to edit my pictures (and not make them look creepy), that I forgot to consider light. Which is totally ridiculous, considering all a picture is, is light. I was feeling very frustrated because I couldn't figure out why my pictures didn't look the way I wanted. One day it hit me...hello, try focusing on your lighting. That has been my main focus now, learning to see the light. It has made a world of difference for me, and I still have a ways to go.

Long story short, if you are new to photography or want to start, save yourself mounds of time, and tons of tears, and focus on light. I promise, lighting will make the biggest difference!
